1st Riding Lesson · 13 June 08 by Heather Voss Barta

Well – after getting rained out last week (and a short one this week due to another storm moving in), I had my first lesson with my new instructor! She’s GREAT! We had a wonderful time. Toad is doing well. I’m doing well. We both are out of shape and need to lose some weight…

But I think that I will enjoy working with her. There were some immediate results. People have wondered why I wanted lessons. “Don’t you know how to ride?” Well, sure, but everyone can get better with practice and instruction. And while I’m not planning on showing again – I know that riding can be therapeutic for my body – and only more helpful when there’s someone there giving pointers (relax your legs, slow down the post, tuck in the tummy…). And because I’m interested in Dressage and not just trail riding, I found an instructor.

(Why people find instructors and coaches for marathons and professional sports.)

  1. Good to hear you’re “back in the saddle” again. You must be on cloud nine.
